Barack Obama has been sworn in as the 44th President of the United States Of America.
He absolutely smashed John McCain in the race to the White House. Beating John McCain 327 Electorate College seats to John McCain's 175. Everybody in the US wanted change. Hope and somebody to get themselves out of the hole that George Bush started to dug. They turned to Barack Obama. Promised to be the next John F Kennedy. But the question is could he be assasinated. I'll answer that question later. So it was Tuesday the 4th of November. Obamavs McCain. This election was litreally going to be decided by the "swing states" (the states that are to hard to say who will win.). Obama winning most of them. John McCain heavily dominated the south and mid-west America. Obama dominating the east states and the west, also winning the "swing states". Obama and McCain voting early trying to avoid the madness and straight away boarded the plane to try and get last minute votes. Either way it went this election would make history. If McCain got elected he would be the oldest president in history and Sarah Palin would be the first Female Vice-President. If Barack Obama won he would be the fist black-american president. The important states in the election were.

California: A state worth 55 electorate seats. The most you can get. This state is vital to any candidate who wants to win the us election.
Florida, Pennysylvania, Virginia and Ohio: True "swing states" together worth 86 electorate seats. "Republican Heartlands" but won by Barack Obama (Democrat). These states can depend on who wins the election.

The US election system is simple and easy to understand and explain. I shall explain. There are things called "College Electoral Votes". Each state gets a number of college seats. It depends on how many people are living in the state (pouplation) . For example California is the most populated state, meaning it gets 55 college seat. Wyoming only has half a million people meaning it only has three seats. The candidate who gets the most votes in that state gets the seats. The first person to get to 270 college seats gets sworn in as the president of the United States of America. Barack Obama scored an ashtonishing 327 seats John McCain only got 175 seats. Meaning Barack Obama has one. This election (campaign) has been overshadowed of the colour of Barack's Skin. I've left some quotes from Martin Luther King. Back to the assasination. Could Barack Obama be assassinated? A famous group of assassind (KKK) have been asked by hundred of hard-core racists to assassinate Barack Obama. But the group said that they will not assassinate Obama. The question is still high over Obama's security. Obama was placed in a Bullet-Proof room when he was ordering his victory speech.
This Election concludes in a stylish fashion Obama at the top. All we just need to do now is to watch and learn!

Has anybody heard of the Silk Road? (Clue: It was a very important step in globalization. And it involved traders, money and big companies!)

Well here's the answer if you were pondering.
The Silk Road is the small stretch of land (now known as Turkey) that links European traders to Asian and Persian (Middle Eastern) traders.
Traders bought and traded each other for money, jewllery and many other items.
I think this is related to modern globalisation beacause the traders had to travel. They had discovered a new place in the world (communication). They had built a new relastionship with other traders. And they had supported their economy by selling (exporting) their goods overseas to inject money into their economy. I think the Silk Road was a giant step to moder globalisation. Without it, Europe and Asia will not be as big in the economy as they really are right now!

On the news I heard that over half of China's toy makers have been bankrupt due to the global economic crisis. It's major importers (Hasbro, Mattel) have had their lowest record profit for this year. Toy prices are expected to go up. Also work conditions and working hours are to blame the bankrupcy. GLobalisation can even effect toys!

A Thought

Whilst we were climbing Kakepuku a thought came into my head.
Do you know how Kakepuku is just under 450 meters and it looked pretty big when we were about to go on the bush. Well I just thought how big Mt Everest would be.
Sir Edmund Hilary must of had really big guts!!!
Mt Everest is like 200 Mount Kakepuku's!!!!!
Mt Everest is no joke.
Some people have died trying to climb the Summit because they have run out of oxygen!!!
But if you were right at the foot of it I mean it would be breath taking.
Over 8,000 meters of mountain!!! (29035 feet!!!)

If you were told to climb Mt Everest would you do it and why?
What would you take up there? (Oxygen would be good!)
If you were stranded on Mt Everest what would you do to get out of the mess?

Remember Mt Everest is a ice mountain.

You have to consider one big thing.

Well on the news last week there was the announcement of 5 Cricket test matches being played against England and the West Indies. This event happens yearly, and the winner of every match every player in the team gets 1 million dollars!!! and they are doing this just to make the game more interesting!!!!

I have a theory.
Spongebob has a job at the Krusty Crab.
But when he has free time he often hangs out with his friend Patrick.
The reason why I am asking this is when he's with Patrick they do the most immature things.
Like play tag your it and play that by sitting down and just tagging each other.
They do many things that are stupid.
Poor Squidward he has to cope with all this.

Living.
The price of Petrol, Food, Dairy and goods have gone up sky-high.
Petrol 10 years ago 1 Dollar a Litre. Now 2 Dollars 6 Cents.
Bread 3 years ago 1 Dollar a loaf. Now 1 Dollar 60 cents at my dairy.
Cheese 2 years ago 8 Dollars a Kilo. Now nearly 12 Dollars a Kilo.
Milk 2 years ago 2 Dollars 50 Cents. Now 3 Dollars 30 Cents.
Life for our parents and Mr Woody must be very hard to live with the booming prices of daily goods.
In some countries the price of petrol is just over 4 Dollars a litre.
Some people are even writing complaints to the government to cut GST (Goods And Service Tax)
Currently at 12.5% to be cut off the basics.
So the price of living is going higher.
Imagine what it will be when were adults and trying to feed our children?

Guess what the prices of Petrol, Bread, Milk, Cheese and other goods that I haven't listed here.
It will be surprising to see your point of view.

Should Shop Owners Be Armed?

Shop Owners.
Ordinary people selling goods to people.
The basic foods of life for example, milk, bread.
Some consumers take them for granted.
Some even go further.
Shop Owners are fearing for their own live.
Some are even scared of coming to work because the might be murdered, raped etc...
The question is, "Should Shop Owners be armed with weapons to protect themselves?"
The death of a 30 year old man has mad me furious of hopeless, stupid people just coming into a shop the shop owner begging for his life giving them everything they wanted and just getting shot dead.
For god's sakes we have to live with these people. By the end of this crime people will move away out of their homes cause of this.
His children are asking. "Where's my dad? Where's my dad?"
They don't even know he's dead.
We live in a country.
Unfourtunatly it has to be recked by a handful of scumbags!!!
That man shouldn't of died.
It's not only his family but us.
We have to look after ourselves.

What He Did:

Louis Pasteur was a French Microbiologist and Chemist famous for his remarkable breakthroughs in the defense of disease.

His experiments supported the “Germ Theory Of Disease “

Pasteur's later work on diseases included work on chicken cholera. Pasteur's later work on diseases included work on chicken cholera. During this work, a culture of the responsible bacteria had spoiled and failed to induce the disease in some chickens he was infecting with the disease. Upon reusing these healthy chickens, Pasteur discovered that he could not infect them, even with fresh bacteria; the weakened bacteria had caused the chickens to become immune to the disease, even though they had only caused mild symptoms.

Without Louis Pasteur’s discoveries we will all be dead!

The Super 14's going down to the wire!!!!

The Chiefs have lost by 1 point to the Western Force in Perth.
It all came down to Matt Giteau's penalty kick.
The win seemed to go the chiefs way as Caullum Brace dropped a goal between the posts.
The Super 14 right now is to hard to predict of this years outcome.
The Crusaders have booked a home semi-final.
The Hurricanes are fighting for their second home semi in the whole history of the tournament.
The Chiefs fighting for their hopes for the final three spaces of the play-off.
The Blues and Highlanders have their dreams crushed.

Chaos in Austria

Josef Fritzl's daughter Elisabeth emerged from the windowless basement where he had locked her up with three of her children and was reunited on Sunday with three other children from whom she had been separated shortly after birth. A seventh baby died in the cellar after it was born.
Austria's justice minister presented a bill on Tuesday to strengthen the country's "victim protection law", particularly in matters of sexual abuse.
In a case that has shocked Austria and the world, Elisabeth, now 42, spent nearly a quarter of a century without seeing sunlight with her daughter aged 19 and two sons aged 18 and 5.
The three other children - two girls and one boy - lived in the house above the cellar with Fritzl and his wife Rosemarie, who also had seven children of their own
Kepplinger said his clinic had a school where Elisabeth's children could be educated as part of their recovery process, and the three who had been locked up in the cellar could read and write, although not very well.
The reunion between Elisabeth and her mother Rosemarie had also been "astonishing", Kepplinger said.
DNA tests confirmed that Fritzl, a 73-year-old retired electrical engineer, was the father of all six surviving children his daughter had born, police said.
Prosecutors were now investigating him over the death of the seventh child, whose remains he had burnt in a furnace, and said he could be charged in connection with the child's death.
Detectives were still combing the 60 square metre cellar beneath Fritzl's home, Franz Prucher,
Fritzl appeared before a judge in St Poelten, the provincial capital of Lower Austria, on Tuesday, and was ordered to be held in detention while police inquiries continued.
Officials said Fritzl said nothing on the advice of his lawyer. He was calm and had been put in a cell where he can be monitored in case he tries to commit suicide.
Elisabeth Fritzl says her father lured her into the cellar in 1984 and drugged and handcuffed her before imprisoning her.
Her fate came to light when the 19-year-old daughter became ill and was taken to hospital. Doctors appealed for her mother to come forward to give details of her medical history.
She was stable but critical on Tuesday, in an artificially induced coma and breathing with a ventilator.
"Our patient is in a severely life-threatening condition which resulted from a lack of oxygen caused sometime between Wednesday and Friday when she was admitted," Doctor Albert Reiter said.
The case has shocked Austrians less than two years after teenager Natascha Kampusch escaped from the basement near Vienna where she had been locked up by an abductor for eight years.
"There are a million unanswered questions," investigator Polzer told Reuters. "How could he manage to live with what he had done? How did he fool everyone?"
"Fritzl was a very cunning man. He not only fooled his wife, but officials, the police, everyone."
Elisabeth and three of the children were kept in a complex which was in some places no more than 1.7 metres high and contained a padded cell, according to authorities.
DNA tests showed that Fritzl was the father of her six surviving children, police have said.

Olympic Games

As you all know the 2008 Olympics will be held in China.
The lucky China number is 8.
That means that the Olympics will start on the 8th month, the 8th day, the 8th second and the 8th millisecond!
China has a very tough task ahead of them. Pollution in China is so bad that you can't even see the sky, they only have a couple of blue sky days. Last year there were about 7 blue sky days from what I can remember from watching the news. Between now and August they are trying to reduce the pollution in the sky by having 'no car' days. Cars with their number plates ending in a odd number cannot drive their cars on every odd number of the week and cars with their number plates ending in even numbers cannot drive their car every other day. China have trialled the 'no car' days last year.
But that has already taken the toll on some athletes as Haile Gebrselassie.
The Ethiopian Long Distance runner (who has broken 25 world records and won numerous amounts of Olympic Medals) is not participating due to the pollution.
He thinks it will destroy his health.
So do you think that China will reduce their pollution to a acceptable limit by the time the Olympics start?

Hamilton 400 Rap-Up

What a weekend!!!
The Hamilton 400 was a great success, with over 170,000 people swarming in to get a glimpse of the zooming cars.
As Russell Ingall predicted it was a crash fest proving a challenge for all drivers.
I got really annoyed of how many restarts there were!
Jamie Whincup was knocked out early due to a tap on the rear by Todd Kelly.

The Holden Hairpin (Turn 2) turned out to be the crash area with a few cars bundling out.
The dreaded chicane on the back straight claimed a few drivers.
Greg Murphy hit the tyre to later on destroy his steering to vanish his hopes of winning.

As the drama unfolded 1 man took the spotlight. Yes Garth Tander winning all three races to take out the Hamilton 400 and to win the Mark Porter Memorial Trophy. Mark Porter was a Hamilton Driver who died 2 years ago in the Bathurst 1000.

The best performing Kiwi was Fabian Coulthard who was fifth over all.
So Holden's Rule the streets of Hamilton for the first time. Can Ford's snatch that away next year. We'll just have to wait.
So a grand success for Hamilton.

Us Room5ians have been partnered up with the HCC (Hamilton City Council) to promote Hamilton after a shocking statement made from the Queensland Reds.
They accused Hamilton of being noted as 'Boring' and not wanting to train in Hamilton before there encounter with the Chiefs.
This had fired us up, so we wanted to promote Hamilton to prove them Wrong.
So we earned the respect from the HCC to help them to promote Hamilton.
We've got a lady called Agent S to help us with this.
We will be presenting this as a digital story using Marvin.
Marvin is being developed as animation software.
We will be the first people to use this.
How cool is that!
Then they will be choosing from our class the top digital stories to promote Hamilton.
This is way better than just making posters.
And it also proves that little kids can shape a city.

Tragedy Strikes In Tongariro National Park

The principal of Elim Christian College Murray Burton wants questions answered over the decision to take students down the Mangatepopo River yesterday on a canyoning trip which led to seven deaths.

Six students and one teacher died in what was described as a flash flood on the river in the Tongariro National Park.

However, he said he had no issue with the gear they wore - lifejackets, helmets, wetsuits and polypropylene clothing - or the staff at the centre.

Mr Burton said he was still having a hard time accepting the seven deaths.

"I wouldn't deny the fact that I am angry on why this has happened to the kids and the families. That is a natural reaction, it is not a white hot anger it is just - why us? Why this?

"But I can say without any trite words that my faith overcomes that anger."

V8 Supercars

As you all know, the V8 Supercars are coming to HamiltON.
The class will be having a debate on if they are for or against the V8's.

The Hamilton City Council is trying to make this this event more GREENER for the city.

The V8 Supercars is a major Australian based tournament which has two main car groups Holden and Ford to race in a various amount of races and Hamilton will host one of them!!!!!!
